Storefronts with QR codes on Google Maps?

Imagine if every storefront had a QR code that you could scan and see the google page for that business. *Their map location, reviews, website, and more all in one easily accessible place.*

Edit: Some additional ideas to get this idea off the ground.

**Logistics:**

1. You could likely get the same success by 1st launching it in *one area* of the world and try to get as many businesses as possible to participate in this area. From here you can show that the business’s can **benefit from this** by using their storefront to advertise their google page, and showing what success they have had in this 1 area. From here you can use that success as evidence for other businesses to use this in their area or city and start to expand to the whole country and world.
2. Some comments suggested that you could use people who work at businesses to be the ones to scan and upload the pictures of the storefronts.

**Money:**

1. You could *charge for different scan amounts.* The more scans the more money you need to pay. Maybe charge *a base amount for a certain amount of scans (1,000),* and *charge for each scan after this amount (maybe $0.01 per scan after 1,000).*
2. You could *charge for how close the QR code is to the storefront.* This could also possibly be done by *number of scans at that location.* For example, you could *charge very little for a scan 5 miles away from the business (even if it is 1,000 scans for example) at a rate of $0.01 per scan.* And *charge a much larger amount for a scan directly outside the storefront (even if only 100 scans) at a rate of $0.1 per scan.*
3. You could *charge for the business’s google page to be at the top of the suggested places to go on the QR code page.* This could be *percentage based* (the more you pay, the higher up on the list you would be), *scan based* (the more scans you pay for, the higher up on the list you would be), or just *ranked by which businesses google thinks you would be most interested in.*

Edit 2: I want to give a huge thanks for the amount of feedback this has had. I have taken a lot of the ideas you’ve all posted in the comments and updated this post to incorporate them. I think this idea has a lot of potential to be used in the real world. If you have any more ideas, please don’t hesitate to comment!

**Final Edit:** This idea has had a lot of great feedback! One of the major comments has been about how the people who do this work will be paid. I think the best way to pay these workers would be to *pay them a base hourly rate, and then a small rate per storefront they upload a picture of. The rate should vary depending on how many scans the storefront gets* because this is a more accurate measure of *how valuable this storefront is to a business.* Maybe you could pay workers a base rate of $15 hourly, and an extra $0.5 per storefront they scan that gets up to 300 scans in the year, $1 extra for storefronts that get up to 600 scans in the year, and $2 extra for storefronts that get over 600 scans in the year. From here, you could also have *bonuses for a certain number of storefronts scanned* such as a $10 bonus for *50 storefronts in 1 day, $20 bonus for 100 storefronts in 1 day, $30 bonus for 150 storefronts in *1 day, etc.*

This idea would rely on workers going around to storefronts and 1st taking *pictures of the storefront so that AI could identify it and determine the QR code is for this storefront.* From here, a *QR code can be printed and placed on the storefront* for people to scan. From here, the QR code can direct people to the storefronts google page and show them the *map location, website, reviews, and more.* This page could also show a list of *suggested places to go* that could possibly be ranked by how many scans are at the storefront, so that people can see how popular and well liked a storefront is. This page could also possibly have an area to list out the storefronts *hours of operation. I personally use this a lot on google pages to see when a business will be open.*

I think this could be a good idea because I don’t carry cash on me very much and sometimes find myself at businesses where I can only pay cash, but I don’t have any. This would be a problem solved by having the website of the business on the google page that you can use to pay digitally. Another issue I have is not knowing when businesses are open and deciding to go to a business only to find out they are closed. This would be a problem solved by having the hours of operation on the google page. A final issue I have is that I travel a lot and am in new areas, and try to support local businesses but don’t know where to go. I think you could use the suggested places to go section to solve this problem.

An issue with this idea is the fact that you would have to hire workers to go around and take pictures of storefronts. This could be a large upfront cost and would likely take a lot of people and time to get this up and running. But in the long run I think *businesses would pay for these QR codes because you could charge per scan on the QR code.* You could also *charge for businesses to be at the top of the suggested places to go page.* A final thing you could do is *charge for the most popular storefronts to have their QR code closer to the actual storefront.*
