I was born in India. My parents took me to Canada when I was a toddler. So, I had no choice but to grow up in Canada and I have. I have spent most of my life in Canada, went to school in Canada, have a good job in Canada, and have no intention of ever leaving Canada.

I turned 18 years old about a year ago. I was born a citizen of India. But when I turned 18, I finally applied for Canadian citizenship. So, I am going to be officially Canadian soon.

I don't give a shit about India. Why should I? I was born in India but it's not my home. Canada is my home. I don't speak any Indian language. I speak English. I don't care about any of India's internal workings. The Modi government is irrelevant to me. I don't care if India becomes a theocracy or a dictatorship. Why would I? I am Canadian. Not Indian.

So, why are Indians so obsessed with the diaspora? Why do they think we care about India? I don't care about India. It's not my problem.

Edit: Since a lot of Indians don't seem to know this, let me make it clear: the Canadian citizenship test is not a joke. It's difficult. It took me months to study for it. I studied the history of Canada, indigenous peoples in Canada, the politics of Canada, etc. If I were to fail it, I would have to wait a year to try again, and if I had failed it three times, I would not be allowed to try again. So, don't think it's easy.

Indians like to say that the diaspora want to be Indian but not live in India. But I do not have to choose between loving Canada and loving India. I love Canada. I do not love India. I love Canada more than I love India. I don't owe India shit. I owe Canada.
