My ex-boyfriend came into my apartment and watched me sleep

This happened about a year ago and I'm just getting around to posting about it. This is a longer post as it's about a whole series of creepy events involving an ex-boyfriend, and it's not just a singular "let's not meet" moment. I've never told anyone about much of this, and I guess I'm just feeling like I want people to know about my ex. This is all pretty fresh in my mind because I recently heard that he's getting married, so it's been on my mind.

In college, I dated this guy. He was a bit older and in law school. I was pretty young to be dating someone in law school, so I was fairly immature and we were poorly matched. I made a lot of mistakes in this relationship. I was a bit of a daddy's girl, and he was my first real boyfriend. He was controlling, but I was much too naive to see it. I thought he loved me and was just trying to help me. And I think that he did, in his own way, but he was controlling me all the same. I caught him in a few lies and I eventually broke up with him. I thought we had parted as friends.

Fast forward about a year. I haven't heard from my ex in a while. I'm living alone and it's in the middle of the night, I believe 2 or 3am. I wake up to a noise and it was my ex standing in my room. He had a smile on his face and he just stood there looking at me. This is how I eventually learned that he had a spare key to my apartment. I don't know what the hell I didn't notice him putting the key in the lock. I screamed at him and I called the police. When the police got there, they said that he was sleeping in the parking lot of my apartment complex. He didn't get arrested because creepy as it was, he hadn't technically done anything illegal by that point.

Over the next few weeks, I started to feel this intense paranoia. Every time I saw him, I called the cops. One time he was "looking for a friend" in my apartment complex. Another time he was in the parking lot and when he saw me, he immediately ran away. This went on for some time and he eventually stopped, or I stopped seeing him.

Then another incident happened about a year later. He had a friend who lived in the building next door. I didn't know this. One night I was sleeping and I woke up to my front door swinging open. It was my ex. He had that creepy smile on his face again and just walked right in and sat in the living room. He said he was waiting for his friend and he "didn't mean to scare me". I was terrified.

This is when I ran into a series of problems with my landlord. The police said they needed to get a report from my landlord that I never gave my ex a key, and my landlord said that she never saw my ex around. The police then said that my landlord says she never saw my ex around, so they can't say for sure it was him. I have no idea what was going on and I don't know if my landlord and my ex were involved in some kind of fucked up game, but it wasn't fun.

I moved out of that apartment at the end of my lease, and I lost contact with my ex. Recently, I heard he's getting married. It's just brought up a lot of memories for me that I've repressed, and I'm feeling a little uneasy about it all. I thought I was being paranoid, I thought I was making a big deal out of nothing. But looking back, it was a series of creepy and even dangerous events that were completely prevented by my ex's behavior. I know that "crazy ex-boyfriend/girlfriend" is a stereotype, but in this situation, it was true.

So ex-boyfriend, let's not meet. That would be good.
