Instead open a window (preferably in a different part of the house if you can) and ask if anyone's there. I know this sounds rediculous but I've heard of people opening their door during a home invasion and the intruder on the other side of the door is waiting for you to open the door and walks in and robs (or worse) you. My advice is that if you get a knock at the door and it goes silent before you open it just don't open it at all. Go through a window in a different part of the house and yell through it to see if anyone's there. <br><br>Yes I know this is very unlikely to happen to you and I have personally not been in this situation before. I've just heard a few horror stories about stuff like this happening.
