Eusebio Leal Spengler is to blame for the "romantic" image of Habana Vieja

Before '13, when this photo was taken, the street looked like this. A slum, a bad place to live with a lot of homeless people. Leal Spengler was the mayor of Habana Vieja and the city's historian, in charge of restoring colonial Cuba. He didn't want to relocate the tenants of the neighboorhood, that to him were an important part of the "revolution's moral". But he needed money and he got it with tourism. By making Habana Vieja an 18th century hommage, he made the city into a theme park. The donations from abroad, all millions and millions, went almost all to tourism. What was left at the end of the month was given to the city's inhabitants, that had to live with food stamps. They didn't get invested in the people. Instead, they were used to customize the neighboorhood into what it is today.

Leal Spengler died in 2020, so we've got almost three years without his management. I want to know what will happen now.
