CMV: The ability for someone to ask you out should not depend on your gender

First of all, I would like to apologize for my English as it is not my native language.<br><br>Recently, I got into an argument with a friend on who should ask who out, in a relationship. I said that anyone should be able to ask anyone out, while my friend said that men should always ask women out. I think it highly unfair to say that men should always ask women out and vise versa. It should not matter what gender you have, anyone should be able to ask anyone out and the gender should not matter in this case. Gender roles can be unfair and should be abolished. What do you think?<br><br>Edit: I would like to thank everybody who commented so far. I have never gotten so many comments in so little time. This has really helped me to understand your point of view and why you think that men should always ask women out. I still think that gender roles are unfair but I can now see your point of view.
