My husband sounds like a complete d**k when he gets home from work and I couldn’t be prouder

I’m a stay at home mom to our 2 kids, 5 (m) and 2 (f) and I know it’s hard work, but today was by far the worst day we’ve had in awhile.

My son is in school until 3:30 and my daughter is usually pretty good, so it’s not like they’re bad kids. Today, however, was different.

My daughter sounds like a cat being neutered and won’t shut up. Usually it’s just a little fussing here and there, but today she sounds like she’s being murdered and won’t stop.

I was very patient with her and she went down for a nap around 10am. She slept until 1:30 and didn’t fuss at all when she woke up.

She was being super clingy today, so she had to be on me at all times. I get home, fed her (she’s 2, not a baby anymore) and put her on the floor so she could play while I did a few things around the house. If I get up, I leave her on the floor. She’s 2. I don’t just leave her on the floor, she’s got toys and snacks. I leave that room for a few seconds and here comes the wailing. Then I have to pick her up and let her sit on my lap.

While she sits on my lap, she decides she’s starving. I feed her. Then she decides she’s thirsty. I get her a cup. (And yes, she can do all this by herself, but I love her and sometimes I like to do things for her)

Then she decides she’s bored and needs to be entertained. So I sit there and play cars with her. We get bored with that. I read her books. We get bored with that. She watches tv. She gets bored with that. So, I let her play on my phone. (She has her own tablet, but sometimes she likes to play on mommy and daddy’s phone. It’s hard to say no sometimes)

She wants snacks. I give them to her. She decides she doesn’t want snacks anymore and throws them on the floor. I tell her no, and she throws more snacks on the floor. Then she’s upset because she wants snacks and I get up to get her more snacks and she’s pissed off.

I leave the room for 30 seconds, come back, and she’s upset. I spend the whole rest of the morning trying to entertain her, and she won’t leave me alone. She’s whining. She’s fussy. She’s just overall being a brat.

She decides she wants to take a nap, but only if I sit on the floor with her. I agree. She takes a nap and I go make myself some lunch and do some laundry. I realize I haven’t ate yet and decide to sit on the floor and hide and eat. She finds me and starts screaming. I get up and try to comfort her. She won’t leave me alone.

My son gets home and immediately makes a mess of the living room. I ask him to clean up and he says yes. I think, “Yay, now I can go spend some quality time with my daughter and focus on my son later.”

I go back to check on my son. I step over the pile of toys he left on the floor and see the massive mess he made. I ask him again to clean up and he starts throwing things at the cat. I take the cat and go in the bedroom. I shut the door and start crying. I don’t even care that my son is probably still throwing things at the living room. I shut the door and listen to my daughter sounds like she’s dying because she wants to be on mommy and daddy’s bed.

I finally calm down enough to see my husband pull in the driveway. As he goes through the front door, I hear him ask my son, “What is wrong with you?!” Then I hear my daughter screaming, “DADDY!!” I come out of the bedroom and see him staring at the mess my son left. Then he turns his attention to my daughter. “Stop!” He says. “You’re being a brat right now and that’s not okay.” Then he turns back to me, “How was your day?”

That’s when I lost it. I started crying and told him how awful my day was. He hugged me and told me how proud of me he is and how he couldn’t do what I do.

My husband is sounds like a complete d**k when he gets home and I couldn’t be prouder.
