If you knew your friends went through your same struggles, would you feel more comfortable discussing them? Or would knowing someone is always available to listen make you feel better?

I ask because I think the answer to that question is a key to helping people with depression, and I feel like I can build an app to facilitate that.

I've struggled with depression my whole life, and I've always found myself feeling more comfortable opening up to strangers than my close friends. I think it's because the strangers don't know me, so I don't feel like I'm letting them down (they never expected anything from me in the first place). I also don't feel bad because they aren't likely to judge me.

Fast forward to 2022 when I download Clubhouse and I go into a room for people with Depression. The room is moderated by a licensed therapist, and it's casual and comfortable. It's the only time I ever opened up to strangers in a group setting and I feel comfortable doing so. I feel like I can be myself. I open up and the strangers seem to be receptive to it, and I feel better after. I didn't feel like I was letting anybody down, and I just felt heard and comfortable. I felt like myself.

I feel like that's what this app would be about - creating a space where people can comfortably open up without being judged, and knowing somebody is always available to listen. It's not a dating app, it's a place for people to just listen and talk as if they were sitting in a room together.
