How can humans live well without being exploited?

I have a blast at my job, I’m treated well, well paid, and don’t work long hours. I have excellent health insurance and even was able to buy a house. I think this is because I’m in a field that has 3% unemployment so they have to make it really attractive to me to pick them over another company. The CEO of my company is a billionaire. His family is set for life for generations to come if he wanted them to be.

I understand that a lot of people work hard and don’t make very much money, and their CEOs are super wealthy. I don’t think the distribution of wealth is fair even if they do pay me well. If my wage is $80,000 per year, my CEO could pay that 100 people to do the same job and still have tens of millions of dollars a year. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

I can’t help but feel like if I’m better off than others because of where I was born, what job I have, how hard I work and how lucky I get (really no one in my family has had a major injury or disease), then I’m somehow complicit. I know humans have always lived in different circumstances and that’s not changing. The best I can do is try to make a positive impact on the world and vote for policies that support all people.

It’s really hard to feel like I’m living a good life while others can be so miserable. I have friends who are underpaid, overworked and depressed. I see homeless people every day and know many people who have serious health issues and can’t afford care. It’s so hard to see that others have it so much harder than me.

Is there anything we can do to change it?
