How to navigate airports travelling solo as a woman?

I love to travel and have never been in a situation where I didn’t feel comfortable. Now, though, I am planning a solo trip to Leicester in the UK and will have a layover at the airport in Amsterdam and I am not sure how to navigate it. Is it blatant to go straight to the lounge after my first flight? I find it the best way to be alone and be safe. But my concern is also how I navigate the layovers without being in a lounge. I know this is not a traditional travel question but I can’t find any information about it online.
