With access to women's lives through social media and other online content, women can now easily find out if the men they are interested in or dating are being unfaithful or have been unfaithful in the past. Women have been conditioned to see monogamy as the norm and having an alternative to this is largely stigmatized. Women have been socialized to have low value for polygynous men but high value for monogynous men, so many women now see choosing between a man who offers them sex and a man who offers them love as an inevitability. Women who are not interested in cheating will eventually be forced to choose between getting laid a lot but never being loved by a man and getting loved by a man but rarely if ever getting laid.

The modern woman's ideal situation is a one way polygyny where she has the freedom to choose between many different men who pursue her and can choose which one to settle down with based on which one offers her what she wants, but men are not allowed to choose between her and other women and cannot be with multiple women if she does not want him to.

There are a lot of women who want this dynamic but have been single for most of their lives and have not been able to find a man who will pursue them, and there is nothing they can do to change this reality, so their alternative is to lower their standards to find a man who will pursue them or to lower their own value and pursue men themselves.

Men on the left wing of the dating spectrum (e.g. Chad) know that they have no need to pursue women and so they do not have to choose between sex and love. They get both. On the other wing of the dating spectrum are men who cannot get a woman to pursue them even if they offer her everything they have (e.g. Michael). These men do not have the luxury of choosing between sex and love because they cannot get any of either. Between these two extremes is the vast majority of men who find themselves having to choose between sex and love.
