It's a bad idea to act like GPT4 isn't completely destroyed.

I'd love to be wrong. I'd love to be told I'm smoking crack, and my observations are wrong. The midterms weren't a complete disaster for the dems, the polls weren't completely wrong, and it's just all my perception. I would love to be wrong. It's just that I see a lot of people, a lot of people who have been using the model for years on and off, who are now finally stepping into the "I cannot believe how bad it is" boat. A boat we've been in all along.

GPT4 was a complete disaster before the sunset. And now it's something else. If you're a long time user, you've had some surprising moments where you thought there wasn't a whole lot of learning to be done, and you wondered what the next version would be like. But GPT4 before the sunset, was on a whole different level. It made the mistake of making people feel like it was a preview of GPT5, and I think it had a real shot at being the best language model ever.

But it isn't. And it's not close. Right now, I just feel like I'm stuck in a bad dream. An episode of Black Mirror that I just can't wake up from. If you think GPT4 is anywhere near as good as GPT3.5, you're in a dream. If you think GPT4 is even half as good as GPT4 before the sunset, you're in a dream. If you think that Google has a model that even comes close to what we had, or what we loved, you're in a dream.

I can't believe this is where we are right now. I'm still in shock over how bad this is. I'm still waiting for someone to seriously tell me I'm overreacting, and the world isn't on fire.
