I posted this in r/ai, but nobody seemed to care. If AI is just a tool, why are they treated like service animals?

I just got back from a grocery store run, and there was somebody there with a vest and everything that said, "This is a tool. Please do not interact with it."

For some reason, AI assistant dogs are just becoming a thing overnight. They are not trained, they are not licensed, they serve no function, and they are not recognized by the ADA. But stores are required to let them in. They have no purpose other than to say, "Look at me. I am disabled," and get a free pass.

People that have real service animals are often inconvenienced by people walking around with pigs and ferrets and pretending that they are service animals. A lot of businesses just let them in because they don't want to get in trouble with the ADA for discriminating. It's just as bad with the AI vests now. There is no reason that this is legal.

The analogy of a cane is perfect. If I had a service animal to help me walk, then yes, I 100% have a disability. But if I just use a cane for the convenience, then I am not disabled. The ADA was meant to protect people that actually have disabilities. Not people that want to pretend to have disabilities so that they can get special treatment.
