I am not an epidemiologist, so take this for what it's worth. It seems like the most well-known strategy to deal with COVID-19 is social distancing. This has already lead to massive job loss, small businesses going under, and the stock market crashing.

Most of the people I've spoken to agree that these measures are necessary. We've just got to shut down everything for 2 months, and when everyone's immune systems are more capable to combat COVID-19, we can go back to business as usual. But is that going to happen? Will people simply go back to their old jobs when it's all over? I don't think so.

Dealing with the economic consequences of this will far outlast the duration of this pandemic. In fact, the social distancing itself may well become a much longer pandemic, a silent killer.

The economic crash of 2007 famously caused a massive spike in suicides. Imagine what this will do to the global economy.

Isn't it worth considering opening everything back up at the end of April?
