"My (28M) girlfriend (27F) smells really bad. How do I tell her without breaking up with her?"

Ok so first the problem itself. My girlfriends vagina is extremely stinky, as in 'why would you stick that inside of your mouth' kind of bad. I'm sorry to say it like this but you guys asked for details. Its kinda like a combination of fish, sweat and some female pheromones. Most of the times I could handle it but when she is on her period it becomes unbearable. I don't feel bad when saying this as I have already told her. I started with talking to her about it and she tried changing her washing régimen but it didn't work. I then suggested to get her tested for anything and she turned out to have some sexually transmitted yeast infection. It was an irritator of the vaginal skin that caused the smell.

Now I would like some advice on if I acted appropriately. When I told her about the smell I was as gentle as I could. I told her with a long preface about how an ambulance siren is sounding in my head that I know overcame my better judgment and in the heat of the moment I told her about the smell and she got hurt really bad and started sobbing so we did not have sex on valentines day.

After that she went to the doctor and they gave her a treatment for the yeast infection. So I thought that everything was solved but then when she came to pick me up from the airport in a car with another strong odor I realized that it wasn't the sole cause of the problem. I gently hinted at it and she got hurt really bad again. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I love her so much that I don't care that much about the bad smell. I just can't stand not telling her about it. How do I help her cure this problem without hurting her feelings?

TLDR: When I told my SO about her smell she got hurt. I don't want to hurt her feelings but I can't stand not telling her about her smell.
