I'm 26 and lonely. I never know how to interact with people or have relationships. Am I too old to change?

Hey everyone.

I turned 26 in November, and I'm a bit of an introvert. I've always been terrible with people and stuff, and I'm not sure how to get better. I have a few people I talk to, but we only say hi and talk about the weather, etc. I just met my neighbors, and they seemed nice, so that's good. But I'm not good at connecting with people. I've been lonely my whole life.

I'm just wondering if it's possible to get better at this stuff. I feel like I'm pretty much a hermit, and I don't know how to interact with people. It feels like my social skills are that of a kid.

If it is possible to change, where do I start?

Edit: wow, I wasn't expecting so many responses right away! thank you everyone.

also, a lot of you are suggesting therapy, and that's a good idea. I had therapy for a month back in college, but I couldn't afford it any longer. I get disability, so I don't have much money.
