Me (from Mexico) and my friend (from America) have a road trip to Texas together and I thought it would be cool to document some differences I see on the road. What cool things should I watch out for?

Hey guys! I’ve done the drive a few times with my family but it was always rushed, and I want to spend some quality time with my friend doing this road trip.

I’m mentioning the countries purposefully because my friend and I will see things from different perspectives. I’m not saying that one place is better than the other, they’re just differences.

This isn’t a list necessarily, but I’d love any suggestions.

Some things I’m looking out for:

Road Quality. This one is basically a given, but my friend from California hasn’t seen much of Mexico so he’s in for a treat. I’m not saying that all of Mexico is unpaved, but at some points the roads are really rough.

Language. Although we’re in an area where English is pretty common, my friend doesn’t speak any Spanish while I do. So he sometimes has trouble communicating with people, especially when we stop at street stands or little restaurants.

Rest Stops. We had a stop at a toll station and it had an Oxxo (a common convenience store chain in Mexico) and a couple of restaurants, and he was shocked at how nice it was. I’ve seen a couple of these on the way, and while they’re not as common, it’s a nice touch.

Police corruption. At one point we were stopped by a police officer just for not having our headlights on, and my friend was really confused as to what was going on. The police officer asked for my license and then proceeded to search my visor and center console. Luckily we didn’t get a ticket or anything, but my friend was very confused at seeing the way they treated us.

Food. We stopped at a couple of street stands and he got some tacos and tortas and really enjoyed them. We also stopped at a local restaurant and he had a big meal (we’re both college students and the road can burn some money) and he said he was in shock at how full he was. The breakfast at the restaurant where we stayed was also super good. So the food has been a great surprise for him.

I know that these are the obvious ones, but please mention any other things you think I should watch out for or document!
