I’m a flight attendant and I got so tired of asking people to pull up their masks that I just started making announcements with my mask pulled down.

I’m tired. I have been working since the beginning of the pandemic. Since March 2020 I have worked nearly 1,000 hours.

I’ve asked tens of thousands of people to pull their masks up. Tens of thousands. Most of the time they do, complainer. Some people get pissy, but I also get a lot of support. However, I’m tired of doing it. Covid finally seems like it might be ending and I just feel done. I’m so done.

My airline has just as much of a hands off approach to mask enforcement as every other airline does. It’s bullshit. All you have to do is get on a plane to see that.

So, I’ve decided to be passive. Instead of asking one person at a time to pull up their mask, I just do this:

(Over the intercom) Great job everyone on keeping your masks on! I see a lot of you have your mask covering both your nose and mouth as if you’re actually trying to prevent COVID. Way to go! Not all of you, though. There are some of you whose masks are halfway down your face. Most of you know who you are, but I’m going to let you keep doing your thing. Because honestly, I’m just tired of asking you to follow the rules. It’s exhausting. I kind of get it. I’m tired too. It sucks to follow the rules sometimes. But the rule is: At all times when you’re on the plane, your mask needs to cover both your nose and your mouth. So if you feel like following the rules you can keep your mask up, and if you don’t feel like following the rules you can keep your mask down. That’s totally fine with me. I’m done.
