The next time you come to a post about something “not being feminism” remember that the feminism of the 60s was not the feminism of the 80s and the feminism of the 2000s was not the feminism of the 2010s, the feminist movement is ever evolving.

I’m not saying that every woman should identify as a feminist, or that every woman has to accept the label. I’m saying that in 50 years the feminist movement will still be around and we don’t have to police every woman (and man) who calls themselves a feminist, because we don’t know what feminism will be in 50 years, or even in 5 years.

The feminist movement is not about gatekeeping who can call themselves a feminist and who can’t. We should be so proud that women want to call themselves feminists without stigmatizing the name and ruining it. We should be so happy that there is a movement for women (and men) to call up to continue the progress that women have made in the past 100 years. We don’t have to police people for calling themselves feminists.

Feminism is ever changing and evolving, and for that we should be proud. That we can continue to call ourselves feminist and work towards equality for women. That women are working for equality.
