My experience at the Gun Show (long)

Hey guys, I went to my first Gun Show yesterday, and it was an eye opening experience for me personally.

First off, it was fun, and I'm glad I went. I met a lot of nice people in the firearms community, and I will be going back.

Now, for the negatives.

I am a 25 year old Asian female. I'm not petite, I don't weigh a lot, and I'm not tiny. It's just who I am.

I saw a lot of vendors who refused to sell me anything because I was "too small", or "you're a girl, why are you buying that?", or "you should be buying a smaller gun, not one of those".

Some offered to buy me lunch, and told me "no offense, but you're not built for owning guns, are you?". Some vendors didn't speak to me at all, and kept taking glances at my husband (who was with me, thank god). I was ready to buy a couple of things, and was told by a vendor "I can tell you don't know what you're doing, you're just going to hurt yourself".

I was turned away from at least 20 vendors who didn't take me seriously, because I am a young Asian woman who wants to own a gun.

I am not from a gun culture, and I never grew up around guns, but I am taking classes and I am working towards owning a firearm. But I get treated poorly by people who know that I am genuinely interested?

That being said, I did meet some amazing vendors who talked me through everything, and helped me pick out a smaller gun I can purchase as a beginner. I did not tell them I was going to carry, or keep it in my home, because I didn't want to be judged. It was a positive experience, and helped me feel more comfortable around guns.

I am going to go back, armed with a lot more information, and I will purchase something when I'm ready. But please, please, PLEASE stop treating young women like we are going to accidentally shoot ourselves, or break down and cry.

Edit: Thank you so much for the kind comments, I didn't expect this much support. I'm glad I could reach out to the sub and share my experience, and I'm looking forward to going back and getting more familiar with the process.
