Stoicism is a philosophical school of thought that originated in ancient Greece. It emphasizes the pursuit of virtue and self-control as the key to achieving happiness. However, Stoicism had a wrong assumption which is that we fear death. It is not true. We humans fear pain. That is all.

I can't think of any person who likes pain. If this is true, the approach to life should be avoiding pain and suffering. If pleasure and happiness happen along the way, good, but this cannot be the ultimate goal of life.

We should not be afraid to die. We should be afraid to die in pain. Politics, economy, society, laws, education, and even medicine can be shaped around this principle.
