AITA for taking back the coffee my son forgot about in the fridge for almost two weeks?

I keep a pot of coffee in my fridge. It goes maybe three or four days depending on how often I drink it. Yesterday, while looking for a cup, I noticed the coffee I had poured into a cup sat on the table for almost two weeks. It still reeked. It was gross.

My son is the only person I know of who has left cold coffee like that before. I know he’s done it in the past and forgotten about it or lost it in the pile of cups. For reference, we don’t drink cold coffee, and no one else would do that.

I got annoyed but didn’t say anything right away. Then it happened again. This time it was two mugs. All of it was still cold, not even drunk. The temperature of the coffee had had time to adjust to the temperature of the fridge. It had been there at least that long. Again, it reeked. It was gross. It was such a waste.

This time, I said something. I told him that he needs to either drink the coffee out of the jug or finish it and pour some back in. I said I wasn’t going to keep it in the fridge if he was going to leave it there for weeks and let it go bad. He lost it at that.

He said I had a weird issue with him drinking coffee and was overstepping as a parent, scolding him for something no one else would consider wrong. I told him it was partly my fault because I knew he’d left coffee sitting a few times and let it go cold. I’d failed to address it sooner to avoid this. Now, I’m going to be more direct and assertive that he at least drink it or pour some back. He said I was way overstepping and humiliating him in front of everyone. AITA?
