What is the nature of mundane reality, and what has caused it?

The world we live in is made up of a multitude of mundane, routine processes we all participate in every day. Waking up, eating, working, sleeping, etc. This is the world we all know, and we all to some extent participate in these processes that ultimately lead to nothing and create nothing. Every day we all just go through the same routine as the day before, accomplish nothing collectively, and die. What is the nature of this world and what has caused it?
