I met someone who claims to have worked for the Boys in their previous life. This is what they told me.

Last night, I had the good fortune of attending a presentation for the *Boys*, a super soldier program made by Pheonix Pharmaceuticals who are rumored to have bought the rights to Project: MONARCH. This is what the presenter told me.

I drove up to the parking lot and opened the garage door. As I got back into my car, a man in a black and red jumpsuit approached me. He told me to leave my car in the parking lot so that I could be escorted. I assumed he was security working for Pheonix Pharmaceuticals so I didn’t think anything of it. I grabbed the presentation pamphlet handed to me by the lady at the front desk and stepped out of my car to begin the walk to the elevator that would take me to the conference room where the presentation was being held, and I noticed that the man who approached me in the parking lot was now walking next to me.

“Excuse me sir, can I help you?”

“I’m Rick. Rick is my name. Nice to meet you there, sir.” He paused. “Rick isn’t really my name, though. It’s just what they call me when I walk by. I’ve forgotten what my real name is. But don’t worry about that right now. How have you been? Not to be rude or anything, but you don’t really look like someone who would be qualified for this position.”

“I’m just here for the presentation.”

“Ah, I see. Is that right? I’m in charge of giving presentations as well, you know. But my job is to go out and… well, it wouldn’t be good for me to tell you that much, I think. You’ll learn soon enough, though, I guess.”

I didn’t answer, I just continued to walk towards the elevator. The walk was silent, and Rick walked with me up to the door of the presentation room.

“How have you-” he cut himself off when he saw that I had already opened the door and walked inside. I then heard the door close quietly behind me.

The room seemed empty except for a woman sitting at a desk in the back of the room. She waved at me and gestured to a chair that was sitting across from her. I walked over to it, sat down, and placed the pamphlet on her desk. She picked it up and then asked me to verify my identity. I reluctantly did so, and she then began to speak.

“Thank you for joining us tonight for this presentation. Project: MONARCH, as you may know, is a codename for a project originally part of, but now supplanting, Project MKUltra. This project was an, if I may say so, incomplete project that the United States government had been experimenting with in the 1960’s and 70’s under the CIA. This project was shut down after being leaked to the public, but Pheonix Pharmaceuticals bought the rights and have been working on it since then. Welcome to… Project: PHOENIX.”

After she said this, the screen behind her turned on and began to display an image of a person strapped to a table, surrounded by men in lab coats. I recognized this as one of the leaked photographs from MKUltra, and realized that this must be what MONARCH was about. The presenter continued to speak.

“You see, MONARCH was based on something called dissociative identity disorder. Essentially, a person with DID, sometimes known as multiple personalities disorder, has more than one personality that determines their actions. Project: MONARCH was designed to artificially create DID by traumatizing their test subjects through physical and sexual abuse, sensory deprivation, drugs, electroconvulsive shock… and other things. What Pheonix Pharmaceuticals discovered through experimentation was that there exists something that some refer to as a “blood veils”. Essentially, when someone suffers a traumatic event, their personalities split apart and form into their own identities. From what our research indicates, everyone begins as a singular dissociate; “The Oversoul.” The Oversoul determines who you are, and by default, is the personality you have in day to day life that makes decisions for you, but there are other dissociates as well. The ones that determine things like your heart beat, your breathing, etc. So, whenever you encounter a traumatic event, more dissociates form, each one determining a personality trait. In Project: PHOENIX, we have begun to experiment with the boundaries of the DID dissociates. Through psychological conditioning, we have made it possible for the dissociates to be switched at will. What this means is that we can simply train one person to perform multiple tasks, and then, when we deem it necessary, simply switch the dissociate.”

At this point, the screen faded to black and turned back on. What I saw was a girl sitting on a table. She was small, she couldn’t have been any older than ten. She was staring off into space, but then, one of the men in lab coats touched her shoulder and she looked up at him. She smiled. It was creepy.

“She is one of our test subjects. She is capable of holding down a steady job and working as an assassin if need be. For example.”

The screen faded to black again, and when it turned back on, the girl was wearing a black and red jumpsuit. There was blood covering her face and clothes, but she didn’t seem to notice. She was walking down a hallway, and then I realized that it seemed vaguely familiar. It was the parking garage. She walked further down the hallway and then turned a corner. That was when I saw myself, walking down the hallway. The girl who was walking towards me on the camera stopped. She looked at me and then cocked her head to the side, almost like a confused dog. The girl then walked closer to me, and then I heard a voice behind me.

“I think it’s time for a demonstration.”

I turned around and saw a man in a black and red jumpsuit with blood covering his face and clothes, just like the girl in the video. As the man approached me, the woman standing at the desk shook her head frantically. The man then reached out to grab me, and I felt some sort of needle pierce into my skin.

Everything went black.

I told this story as soon as I got back to my house, but my wife hasn’t stopped giving me weird looks ever since.
