I'm working on a fantasy world and I want to know general advice on how to build a whole society/culture from scratch. I'm not looking for really specific stuff in the sense of how to name your characters, what types of magic you should have, specific animal names or really specifics on how the politics work. I want to know stuff that would apply on a universal scale in terms of how to make a fantasy world.

This is an example of things like:

Your maps should be slightly imperfect
If a character's name ends with a "V" chances are it's Slavic inspired
Your story has plot holes because you didn't build your world far enough out in advance

Stuff like that.
