The St. Louis Rams Stole America's Football Team

A popular argument made by Rams fans is that "any NFL team can move to any city." And while this is technically true, it's a morally bankrupt stance. When you support the Rams, you are part of a franchise that doesn't care about being a part of its community.

The Rams were originally based in Cleveland as a member of the NFL. In 1946, the team moved to Los Angeles, where the Rams have spent most of their time. But in 1995, the team moved to St. Louis, Missouri. The team stayed in St. Louis, where the Rams won Super Bowl XXXIV, until 2016, when the team moved back to Los Angeles. The St. Louis Rams were the first Super Bowl contender to be relocated.

It's bad enough when a team relocates from one city to another. But when you move from one city to another to another, you are no longer a part of a community. Instead, you serve as a constant reminder that the NFL doesn't care about its fans, only about the owners' bottom line. The NFL flexed its corporate muscle by taking away America's football team.

The Patriots may be the "evil empire." The Cowboys may be "America's team." But the Rams are "America's football team." Being bad doesn't make the Rams exciting. Being cursed doesn't make the Rams lovable. And moving from city to city doesn't make the Rams part of the community.

Fuck the Rams.
