One day while workers were clearing a forest in Brazil for a new mine, they found something.

It was a man.

He lay in the mud, blood and scars lining his entire body. They took him in and nursed him back to health. Once he could move, they were able to see even more scars.

Scars from whips criss crossed his back.

A large burn was on the top right side of his head, leaving a smell of rotting flesh emanating from it.

A scar lined his right eye, as if someone had stabbed him and gone right through his eye socket.

The workers took him to a local hospital to see if they could figure out his identity.

Nothing.

They took fingerprints, dental impressions, facial recognition, and ran them all through every database and found nothing.

No passport could be found on him, no phone, no wallet, nothing at all.

His only clue to who he was was a necklace dangling from his neck with a metal pendant reading “1021”.

They took blood samples, and found something else very strange.

He was 102 years old when he was found.

This was confirmed by multiple tests, and every doctor was bewildered.

He was brought to a mental hospital, where a psychiatrist attempted to figure out who he was.

Doctor Thompson was the resident expert in attempting to figure out lost identities. She was convinced she could help him.

“Hello sir, my name is Doctor Thompson. How are you doing this evening?” She asked.

“I am doing alright. I wish I could remember who I was.” He said.

“You will sir. I promise. But first you must tell me anything you can about yourself. Do you remember anything?” She asked.

The man thought for a moment, before answering.

“I can’t remember anything.” He said.

Doctor Thompson felt her heart sink.

This was the hardest case she’d ever taken on.

But she wasn’t going to give up.

“Sir, what do you think your name is?” She asked.

The man thought for a moment again.

“I don’t know.” He responded.

Doctor Thompson crossed her arms.

“Not even a guess?”

“No. Nothing.” He replied.

Doctor Thompson sighed.

“Sir, you will have to stay here until we can figure out who you are. But if you remember anything, please let us know.” She said.

The man stood up.

“I will.” He replied.

Doctor Thompson escorted the man to his room, where she told a nurse to look after him.

The next day, Doctor Thompson decided to go back to the man’s room.

Maybe he had remembered something.

When she got there, she noticed the man was looking out the window.

“Sir, what are you looking at?” She asked.

“I’m just looking at the sky.” The man replied.

“Sir, I must tell you, the world is not what it used to be. You’ll see. You’ve been gone a long time.” She said.

The man turned to her.

“What do you mean?” He asked.

“You sir, have been gone for 100 years. Do you remember anything about the world before you disappeared?”

The man thought before responding.

“I can’t remember anything about the world before I disappeared. Except one thing.” He said.

“What’s that?” Doctor Thompson asked.

“I think I may have killed someone.” He replied.

Doctor Thompson’s eyes widened.

“Who did you kill sir?”

“I don’t know.” He replied.

Doctor Thompson sighed a deep sigh.

This man may be more than she could handle.

But she was still not going to give up on him.

She vowed she would figure out his identity, no matter the cost.

But as she looked into his eyes, she noticed something.

Something strange.

He seemed to be telling the truth when he said he killed someone.

But his eyes didn’t seem regretful.

Only sinister.

Doctor Thompson had a feeling that his story was going to be a lot more sinister than she thought.
