Firearm is not a weapon, it is a tool

I see a lot of people in the comments referring to firearms as weapons. The term "weapon" has negative connotations of murder, crime and abuse of said weapon. I understand that they are called weapons by default, but I don't think it's right to call them weapons. I think that their purpose was as a tool, a tool of self-defense like any good tool.
