**TL:DR:** I left my job and moved to a new city to be with my husband, but I got the job of my dreams back in my old city. I couldn't afford to fly so I mailed my husband back to me, kinda.

**The Story:** I got married three years ago and moved to a new city in a new state. I got a job as an accountant but it was a bad fit and I quit after a few months. I was looking for a job when the pandemic hit and I had no success. I had to stay with my parents for a few months before I got my first remote job. A few months ago I got a job as a financial analyst and I'm finally out of my parents' house \o/. I was literally up to my eyeballs in rehabbing my credit after being out of work for so long \o/. I got the job in my old city and I'm so happy to be closer to my family.

My husband was in college before I left for my new city and I just got a job I loved, so he started rehabbing my credit with me. He stopped going to school and has been working at a gas station to help me get back on my feet. He's been so great about the whole thing and really supportive. I'm so lucky to have him. I wanted to surprise him with the best surprise ever, and I did.

I came up with an idea to surprise him and asked my best friend to help me. I needed to get him to my house without him knowing and started brainstorming. I thought of the mailing idea and thought it was ridiculous, but then started really thinking about it and it could work. I took a few pictures of him and sent them to my friend. She made a cardboard cutout of him and a box to go with it. It was a lot better than I thought it would be and was really funny.

I wrote a letter to him talking about the new job I got and how I was so happy to be closer to my family. I told him that I really wanted to surprise him and thought of a great way to do it. I said that I was literally mailing him a surprise and he would only find out what it was on delivery. The last thing I said was to follow the delivery driver. I put the letter in the box with the cutout and my friend and I took it to the post office.

He was so confused when he got the package. He opened it and read the letter, then looked at the cutout and was like, "What is this?" He thought it was a joke and was really confused. He told me that he thought it was a meme at first, but then he read the letter again and thought I was messing with him. He said that he followed the delivery driver because I told him to, not because he thought I was actually telling the truth. It was about a 30-minute drive and he thought it was crazy to think I was really driving all that way. It was even crazier that I was hiding behind him the whole time.

I picked him up from the post office and we went back to my place. We spent the day together and he's moving back in with me on Saturday. It was such a happy surprise and he really loved it.

Edit: Since I see a lot of people have questions I'll answer them here. I didn't pay for postage. I only went inside the post office to get a picture of him holding the package. We went back to my car and I picked him up. We are in our 20's. The post office was closed when I dropped off the package so he didn't have to deal with anyone there. The cutout was very realistic and I knew he wouldn't recognize himself at first. I think that's what made it so funny for me. It was a lot of fun to plan and I'll always have this happy memory of our relationship.
