CMV: Most songs are overproduced to sound good and don’t sound as good on acoustic as they do in the studio

I’m not talking about 100 percent of songs and this post is also very subjective. But there’s been plenty of instances where I’ve listened to an acoustic recording of a song and it’s just not good unless the artist actually composes an entirely new version for acoustic.

Speifically, I remember listening to Britney Spears’ MTV unplugged (which is just a live acoustic set) and the songs sounded terrible. Mostly because the instrument choice was so weird, she uses a lot of percussion and weird electronic sounds in her music but she was using live instruments for an acoustic set and it just didn’t work.

You can also compare Ed Sheeran’s studio version of Thinking Out Loud to a purely acoustic version without any production and it sounds completely different.

I get that acoustic is supposed to be more raw but I just think a lot of artists don’t sound as good without a lot of production.
