The Horrorshow That Is The Next 20 Years

So I just saw a comment in this sub where someone was like "I'd say we have a 60% chance of hitting AGI before 2045".<br><br>And that Horrorshow feeling just hit me like a ton of bricks. No no no no no. Man. We are going to be *lucky* if AGI is before 2075. We are going to be *lucky* if AGI happens before we destroy the planet, the last pandemic, the next war, the next famine.<br><br>AGI is not going to happen before 2100. In fact, I think the odds of us surviving until 2100 are low, but that's just my opinion.<br><br>We've been all awaiting this glorious treasure at the end of the rainbow. A world of plenty, where one can sit back and watch the sunset on a beach in a world without poverty or pain.<br><br>But our world is crumbling around us. Climate change is already ruining our world, and one day it will end up like Venus. Pandemics will get worse. Man has waged war since the dawn of time, and wages it to this day. The world is already in a gloomy state, and the eighteen year old yous are in for a nasty awakening if they think the world is going to fix itself before the AI drops.<br><br>I just want to tell all the young people out there to prepare for the worst. Man has achieved some amazing things, but I have very low confidence we will achieve anything resembling utopia in my lifetime. The world is not going to fix itself. Climate change is not going to go away just because it has gone away in your mind. We are killing the world, and getting poorer, and killing each other, and this is only going to get worse.<br><br>Enjoy the sunset, while it lasts.
