Saw a Facebook post from a former student that broke my heart

The student graduated 6 years ago. He was one of the most difficult and challenging students I taught in my 25 years of teaching. He had extreme difficulties socially, academically, etc. There were countless times where I had to intervene between him and other students and it was frustrating. He had extreme difficulties learning, even simple things that took a couple of minutes for students to grasp. I was a resource teacher and he was in my caseload for three years and I struggled with him. I had to push him to be successful and I even had to push him to graduate. He was one of those students who I always thought about years later “I wonder what happened to him.”<br><br>Fast forward to today, I saw his post on facebook. He has recently been promoted to lieutenant in the police department. I was so proud of him!
