This is a controversial opinion I have, but I have reasons for thinking this. Firstly, the US has peacefully transitioned between presidents for 223 years. We have contributed greatly to technology and scientific research, including being the only country to ever land men on the moon. We have a free, diverse society in which people from all over the world can live freely and pursue happiness. The US is a very generous nation, donating the most out of any other country on earth. The US also helped knock out the Axis powers during WWII, bringing peace to the world. We feed many hungry nations, provide basic necessities, and do a lot to protect the environment. Our nation has been an independent nation for over 240 years and has never been defeated by another nation.

The British Empire, on the other hand, was a much more authoritarian nation. They conquered many countries and forced their rule, holidays, and even language on these people. I am not saying the British were cruel and greedy, but they did tax the people in the countries they conquered. They also took very valuable resources and land from other countries. The British even conquered parts of China and forced them to allow the trade of opium, which is a horribly addictive drug. The British also fought a war against China over the flow of opium. One of the last hold-ups of the British Empire was Hong Kong, which was a British-owned city. Despite the newfound independence of Hong Kong, they still celebrate Christmas, speak English, and use many things the British left behind.

In conclusion, while the US has done some wrong things, they have done a lot more good than the British Empire ever did. You can change my view.
