I'm currently reading "When Prophecies Fail" from Leon Festinger, which is an early work in the field of cognitive psychology, and is being discussed in many places thanks to recent events in the US.

The main idea is that the past (and human memory) changes based on the future, and that predictions of the future are partly a reflection of what a person expects to happen, based on the past, but also some kind of 'hopeful thinking' trying to influence the future.

After finishing Festinger's book, I think there might be certain similarities between today and the 1950s, and so it's worth asking what we expect for the next 50 years of history.
