Once you go black, you never go back... but not for the reason you think

I was 18 when my (now) wife (she was 20 at the time) asked me to go with her to a black hairdresser. I had black hair at the time anyway (r.i.p. 2004-2017), so I figured that a hairdresser who was black would know what she's talking about. I sat down in the chair, and she was like "oh lord... have mercy." And I was like "what?" and she said "this boy's hair's a mess." So she goes to work, and a half hour later, I was looking good. Really good. And I had hair to prove it, at 6'.6". I was talking to her, and she said "you know, a guy came in here one time, and said that black women do black hair better because they're black." So I said "Hmm, you think that's true?" And she said yes. And I said "as a white man with black hair, I have to go to a black hairdresser every time, or I'll look like a dandelion."

Often times we see on this sub men with stupidly bad haircuts. I'm pretty sure the reason for this is that the barbers that these men go to have no idea what they're doing, because their hair isn't black, so they don't understand how it works. Black hair is like a completely different entity from white hair, and white barbers just don't get it. I've gone to white barbers and asked for a fade, and left with a crew cut. Do white barbers think that every black man wants to be High and Tight? I've gone to white barbers and asked for a trim, and left with a completely different haircut. I go to a black barber, and she does it just right every time, because she knows what she's doing.

So, once you go black... you can't go back to that crappy white barber that you used to go to, because you know now that there's a better way. But not for the reason you think.
