Just finished watching my 3 kids play at the beach for the last time. How did you parents do it?

I have 3 incredible kids, a 21 year old daughter, a 20 year old daughter, and a 14 year old son. Today, my son is the last of our kids to get on a plane and move far away. We live in Texas, and he is moving to Connecticut to live with his older brother in law (my daughter's husband).

My daughter and her husband have a beautiful lake house that my son will basically have to himself. He starts a new school in a couple of days and will live with them for the rest of the school year. My son is an exceptional kid. He is an all state athlete in 2 sports and has a 4.0 GPA. His brother in law is an ex college football player, and he and my daughter are thrilled to have my son live with them.

The plan is that I will fly up there in a couple of months and watch him play some football. My wife has already agreed to let me go by myself, lol.

We moved here from Utah 7 years ago. I commuted home every weekend for 18 months so I could still coach my kids. We finally moved to Texas so my wife could have a job again. Since moving here, my son has also had to adjust to a new school and friends, but still was an all state athlete in 2 sports and graduated with academic honors. When he was 11, we had a big scare when he was diagnosed with cancer, but thankfully he is now cancer free.

I am 66 and in good health, so I have no idea how long it will be until I see him again. He is a tough, resilient kid, but he was very emotional today as we said our goodbyes.

Just curious, parents, how did you do it?
