Honestly, it did it's job.

It's a buffer zone between the East and West.<br><br>It led to the collapse of the USSR which saw the end of communism.<br><br>It's an EU and NATO member and is not another Belarus or Ukraine.<br><br>Though it's not a great country to live in standard of living-wise, it's a great country to live in safety-wise.<br><br>Though things are going to be tough in the next 2-3 years, it's not going to be complete war.<br><br>I'd even argue that it would be better off as a German province in the 19-20th century not speaking Lithuanian as that would ensure it would have modernized and be a wealthy country like Bavaria.
