"I can't even boil water" is a laughable humble-brag that needs to be abolished.

I've been hearing this stupid line a lot lately and it grinds my gears. It usually comes in the form of "I can't even boil water, let alone *insert basic baking*". I realize it's not the most atrocious crime against humanity but I just can't stand the sound of it, and I wish people could stop using it. In my opinion it sounds really pretentious and arrogant, because the ultimate implication is that all these activities, including baking, are so far out of the speaker's league, and they're so clumsy and basically helpless. It just doesn't make sense. I can't imagine a scenario in which someone couldn't boil water, and if such a person existed, they'd be the first to know. I guess what I mean is that the speaker is just saying this for the sake of it, because they heard it somewhere and thought it sounded funny.
