The culture around tipping in the USA is a bad thing for society.

* It abuses an already exploitative capitalist system by shifting the burden of what should be wages *and* profit onto consumers who already pay overhead on items<br> <br>* It creates the expectation from an employer that employees will be compensated in such a way that it allows them to pay their employees below minimum wage<br> <br>* It perpetuates an *in*equality in a supposedly capitalist society where a person working a less customer facing job is expected to be paid less, even if they are an expert in their field. This is more regarding service workers who are expected to make up their full wage in the form of tips<br><br>* It allows restaurants, chain stores, etc. to exploit their workers in the form of wage theft<br><br>* The wage a server makes on a slow night can be very low with tips<br><br>* It's an *inefficient* and *unfair* system for consumer and worker; consumer because there is no fair level of tipping, worker because it doesn't provide them with a fair level of pay<br><br>I hope this may spark an interesting discussion.
