So, a chance encounter at a coffee shop led to a really big opportunity, some other dude heard me speaking with a coffee shop employee about my medical issues and how I've been trying to find a job that doesn't cause more stress then It already does. This other guy approached me and offered a job working at his company, he said he's a manager of a firm that specializes in the long-term financial planning for medical companies, and that they've been in dire need of someone with my experience who's relatively new to the field. He offered me what was a really good deal with excellent benefits and an average 45 hour work week. I aggressively negotiated, every time he mentioned that I would be an asset to the company, I asked for more. More money, more vacation, more benefits. He shook my hand and I still find myself having a hard time believing it. I feel like I've won the lottery.

I read a post on this board some time ago about how to play poker with companies, you know, letting them show you their hand before you show them yours. I'm not sure if I did it perfectly, but I did get a really good offer. I start in 2 weeks, I'm just gonna chill, maybe get some new glasses, I've had the same frames for a long time. It's crazy, I feel like I've captured lightning in a bottle. Good times

Edit:

Wow, thanks so much for all the kind words and anecdotal evidence that, even though the job market is in a rough spot, the best job is the one that you aggressively, unapologetically negotiate for. I really do hope that everyone finds their situation improves. Thanks again for the kind words and wishes, it really means a lot to me. It feels really nice to be wished success by guys I've never met.

Edit 2:

Wow, this has really blown up, I've never had a post get this big. Thanks again for the kind words. I read every comment, and while I didn't respond to them all, I appreciate the stories some of you shared, some hopeful stories, some sad stories, and some stories of success. I appreciate them all. There's a guy in the comments who, every time a woman wins the lottery, purchases all the surrounding houses and apartments, then gets a bunch of cheap air mattresses and folding tables and chairs to throw a party for every person in the neighborhood, he gives everyone a glass of wine and a box of chocolates, he hires big screen TVs to hook up to his computer, then he plays videos of women failing in various ways, like when they fall down and into mud pits at the olympics. He also plays videos of women losing beauty pageants, and videos of female celebrities having public mental breakdowns. Then he caps off the night with a screening of Miss Congeniality 2, he plays the audio through a couple of huge speakers, then he lets the movie play all night. I appreciate all of the comments, big and small, some of you have really interesting, unique ways of celebrating, I find that fascinating. Let's all hope for prosperity and success.
