Two men, who are strangers, walk into a bar. One of them orders a beer, while the other orders a coke. This is not a joke, but real life. They sit at the same table, and talk.

This is a short story I wrote, but I don’t have a home for it on the internet, and I don’t know where I’d post it if I did. So, I’m sharing it here. I hope you like it.<br><br>Two men, who are strangers, walk into a bar. One of them orders a beer, while the other orders a coke. This is not a joke, but real life. They sit at the same table, and talk.<br><br>“You know, I had a great childhood,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“I had a great childhood too,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Did you ever wish you had a different childhood?” asked the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“No,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Me neither,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>The bartender was confused by the fact that the two men were sitting at the same table, but he didn’t say anything about it. He simply served them their drinks. They sat at the table together and continued talking.<br><br>“You know, I’ve never met a man who orders a coke,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“I never met a man who orders a beer either,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Do you have a problem with what I ordered?” asked the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“No,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“I don’t have a problem with what you ordered either,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>The two men continued talking. They talked for hours.<br><br>“How long have you been here?” asked the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“All night,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“I’ve been here for a long time too,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“How’s the food here?” asked the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“It’s good,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>The bartender came to check on them. “Do you guys want food?” he asked.<br><br>“Yes, please,” said both men.<br><br>“Okay, I’ll send someone over,” said the bartender. He left and came back with a waiter.<br><br>“Hey, we have two men at a table who want food. Could you take their order?” he asked the waiter.<br><br>“Yes, of course,” said the waiter. “Okay, I’m here. Two men want food?”<br><br>“Yes,” said both men.<br><br>“I’m ready to order,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“I’m ready to order too,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“Okay, let’s order,” said the waiter.<br><br>“Do you have any fish?” asked the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Yes,” said the waiter.<br><br>“I’ll have the grilled fish with the sweet and sour sauce, and a side of fries,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“I’ll have the grilled salmon with the honey mustard sauce, and a side of sweet potato fries,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“Great,” said the waiter. “I’ll go tell the chef. I’ll be back with your food.”<br><br>“I’ll be back with your food too,” said the waiter.<br><br>“Great, thanks,” said both men.<br><br>“Okay, I’m back,” said the waiter. “Here’s your food.”<br><br>“Thank you,” said both men.<br><br>The waiter left and came back with two plates of food. He put one plate in front of the man who ordered a coke, and the other plate in front of the man who ordered a beer. The bartender then came with two plates of food and put them in front of the two men.<br><br>“I’m back,” said the bartender.<br><br>“Thank you,” said both men.<br><br>“Okay, I’m back,” said the waiter. “Here are your two plates of food.”<br><br>“Thank you,” said both men.<br><br>The two men ate their food together, while continuing to talk.<br><br>“That was really good,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“I know, right?” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“I’m glad we both liked it,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Me too,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“Do you want some of my fries?” asked the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“No, thanks,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“Okay, I’ll eat them then,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“I’ll eat your sweet potato fries too,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“Great,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Okay, I’ll eat them,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>The two men finished their food and sat at their table again.<br><br>“Thanks for sharing your food with me,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“You’re welcome,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“How do you want to pay for your food?” asked the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“I’ll just pay for mine,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“Okay, I’ll just pay for mine too,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Great,” said both men.<br><br>The bartender came to their table again. “How was your food?” he asked.<br><br>“It was great,” said both men.<br><br>“Okay, I’m glad you guys liked it,” said the bartender. “You know, you’re sitting at the same table.”<br><br>“Yes,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“I know,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“You two order the same kind of food,” said the bartender.<br><br>“Yes,” said both men.<br><br>The bartender laughed. “You two are kindred spirits,” he said.<br><br>“Maybe we are,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Maybe we are too,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>They both laughed. “I guess we are,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Yes, I guess you are,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>The bartender laughed again. “I’m going to go put this down,” he said.<br><br>“Okay,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“I’ll pay for my food now,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“Okay,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>The bartender went away with the man who ordered a beer, and the man who ordered a coke stayed at their table. He drank his coke and waited for the man who ordered a beer to come back. The man who ordered a coke sat at the table by himself, while the bartender was with the man who ordered a beer. They were in the bar together, but they weren’t sitting together. The bartender came back with the man who ordered a beer, and the man who ordered a beer sat back down at the table.<br><br>“How much did your food cost?” asked the bartender.<br><br>“Twenty dollars,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“Here’s your receipt,” said the bartender.<br><br>The bartender gave the man who ordered a beer a receipt, and the man who ordered a beer took it.<br><br>“Thanks,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“You’re welcome,” said the bartender. “That’ll be twenty dollars.”<br><br>The man who ordered a beer pulled out his money and gave it to the bartender. “Here you go,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“Thank you,” said the bartender.<br><br>The bartender gave the man who ordered a beer his change, and the man who ordered a beer took it. “You’re welcome,” said the bartender.<br><br>The bartender left, and the man who ordered a beer was back at the table again. The two men were sitting at the same table together, and they continued talking.<br><br>“Do you want another drink?” asked the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Yes, I do,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“Okay,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>The bartender came to their table again. “Do you guys want another drink?” he asked.<br><br>“Yes, we do,” said both men.<br><br>“Okay, I’ll bring you two more drinks,” said the bartender.<br><br>The bartender left and came back with two glasses of drinks. “Okay, I’m back,” said the bartender.<br><br>“Thanks,” said both men.<br><br>“Okay,” said the bartender. “You know, you’re sitting at the same table again.”<br><br>“Yes,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“I know,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>The bartender laughed. “You two are still sitting at the same table.”<br><br>“Yes,” said both men.<br><br>The bartender laughed again. “You two are still talking to each other.”<br><br>“Yes,” said both men.<br><br>The bartender laughed. “You two still order the same kind of food.”<br><br>“Yes,” said both men.<br><br>The bartender laughed again. “You two still drink the same kind of drinks.”<br><br>“Yes,” said both men.<br><br>The bartender laughed. “You two are still kindred spirits.”<br><br>“Yes,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Yes, I am too,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>The bartender laughed again. “You two are still great friends.”<br><br>“Yes,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Yes, I am too,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>The bartender laughed. “You two are still the same.”<br><br>“Yes,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Yes, I am too,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“Okay,” said the bartender.<br><br>“Thanks,” said both men.<br><br>The bartender left, and the two men were sitting at the same table again. They sat together and continued talking. They were in the bar together, but they weren’t sitting together. They were two strangers who knew each other, and they were friends.<br><br>“So, what do you think of the bar?” asked the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“I like the bar,” said the man who ordered a coke.<br><br>“Me too,” said the man who ordered a beer.<br><br>“I know
