When Charlie walked in, Kat was on top of Noah and Charlie knew she'd never get her out of the house in time. Charlie called a cab, knowing that Kat's mom would make her stay. The boys came to find Charlie packing her bags, and the boys begged her not to go. Charlie told them she didn't want to see Kat pregnant and that she couldn't be there for that. They begged her to stay and they could help her raise the baby, but Charlie was horrified. She didn't want Kat to stay with them and she definitely didn't want her to stay with Noah.

She got into the cab and drove around town for hours, thinking. Charlie thought about getting a hotel, but she was afraid Kat would come find her. Charlie had no idea where to go and was worried that Kat would be calling her. Charlie had to find a place to stay, though. She knew she could get a studio, but she'd rather a place with a kitchen so she wouldn't have to eat out all the time.

After a few hours of driving, Charlie found an apartment and took it. Charlie was exhausted and called the boys to let them know she was okay. She didn't tell them where she was staying, but they asked her if Kat was okay. Charlie asked if they thought Kat was okay and the boys said they didn't think so. They were pretty sure that Kat and Noah were going to be parents, and Charlie was sad for her friend. The boys hung up and Charlie cried herself to sleep.

Charlie woke up to the sound of her phone going off and groggily reached for it. It was a text from Noah, telling her that Kat was okay and that the boys were okay. Noah told her he was sorry and that he would always consider Kat his girlfriend. He said he understood if she never talked to them again and told her that he loved her, Kat, and the boys. He said he hoped they could be friends again someday. Charlie texted him back that she hoped so too, but she couldn't be around them right now.

She didn't see or talk to Kat or the boys for the rest of the summer. She called them occasionally and they told her they were both doing okay. Charlie was doing well, though she missed Kat a lot. She and the boys had gone to a summer camp for the past few summers, but she didn't want to go this year. Charlie was a little sad, but she was glad she'd made the decision. She didn't think Kat would have been okay without her.

Kat had a baby boy named Benji, and Charlie saw her when they were both back in school. Kat was happy and Charlie was happy for her. Noah and Kat were still together, and Kat was going to be a stay-at-home mom for now. Charlie didn't see or talk to the boys as much anymore. They had gotten closer to Kat and her family. She saw Noah at times, but he was still a bit distant with her. Charlie didn't really mind, though. She was happy that Kat was happy.

Years later, Charlie would look back on this summer as the summer that showed her the true meaning of friendship. She could have stayed with Kat and helped her through the pregnancy, but Charlie knew that Kat would never get better if she stayed with her. Charlie made a hard decision, and she was happy with it. Kat is married to Noah now and they have two kids together. Charlie has two kids of her own. She's happy that Kat is happy, and she knows that she made the right decision. She knows that Kat would never have gotten better if she stayed. Charlie knows she did the right thing.
