The campaign to part the gullible GOP base from their money is about to begin.<br><br>As much as we need him to go away for good, this may end up being a positive thing. <br><br>The money that goes to Trump will be money that stays out of the pockets of real candidates. So that’s a plus. <br><br>And based on the last couple of years, it’s pretty clear that the Democratic party is done with him. They’re better off putting their money and efforts into candidates that can win.<br><br>That leaves the Republican party. They know that if they enable Trump again, they’ll probably go down in flames. But their base still wants him. They know that if they don’t, they’re going to lose votes to a third party. <br><br>So this may be the first real test of the Republican party’s commitment to democracy and their personal integrity. Do they stand up for the right thing, or do they stand up for power and money?<br><br>This is going to be a litmus test for a lot of Republican politicians and pundits.
