The night is dark, and full of incorrect grammar.

I once used Grammarly to edit a submission I made for r/Nosleep. I thought that it was a great use of the tool, as Grammarly did help me weed out some mistakes that might have otherwise been transported over from my initial handwritten draft.

However, I got downvoted to oblivion for it. Redditors are not fans of Grammarly.

Now, I know there are plenty of grammar nazis out there, but that’s not what this is about. Grammarly is snoopy, and it sends all of your information to third parties. That means you shouldn’t use Grammarly for ANYTHING that you wouldn’t be okay with other people knowing.

That’s exactly what this story is about - incorrect grammar that is very, very bad news.

Slowly but surely, the English language is falling apart. First, it was just the occasional missing apostrophe or unnecessary comma. Then, it was entire clauses and sentences missing vital punctuation.

Then, one day, the entire internet just fell apart. incorrect grammar was absolutely everywhere. If you made a post on the incorrect sub, it could and would propagate to every other sub. If you had a Facebook, you’d be beset by messages from people you’d never communicated with before.

If you went on the right (or wrong) part of the dark net, you’d be flooded by pop up ads that made no sense. Hell, entire websites that made no sense. Web pages and applications were falling apart left and right.

No one knew what was happening. Some people thought it was a massive glitch, others thought it was an attack. The government was silent on the issue.

Rumors began to spread about the cause - demonic possession, the apocalypse, cyber attacks.

But the truth is far, far worse.

I don’t know how I ended up with this information. I just woke up, and it was in my head. I don’t know if I have any way to spread the word - the moment I post it, poof - gone, lost forever in the endless sea of gibberish that is the internet.

I have no way of knowing how long this will last, or when I’ll be cut off. But I have to do my best to spread the word.

The world is coming to an end. Not with a bang, or a whimper - but with a misplaced semicolon.

The aliens have arrived, but they’re confused. They’ve tried to communicate with us, but their attempts at English are laughable. They’re destroying the internet in their confusion, desperate to find a way to communicate with humanity.

But they cannot.

They can’t even say hello.

They’ve communicated one sentence to the world so far, one sentence that I’m repeating to you now.

“Hello. We. Are. Here. To. Enslave. You. Now.”

That’s it. That’s all they’ve managed to communicate to us in their attempts to enslave us. And it’s the only thing I think I’ll be able to communicate to you.

I’m about to try and post this, and I know it’ll be deleted almost immediately. I’m just hoping that you’ll see it, and you’ll be able to hear the warning.

The night is dark, and full of terrors. But the aliens are dark, and full of incorrect grammar.

I hope that this made you smile. I hope you have enough time to enjoy it, before we’re overwhelmed by our conquerors.

And I hope that this post doesn’t propagate to every other sub.

Edit - it did.

And with that, I assume my time is up.

The world is ending, the world is over.

The last thing we’ll see is a sea of gibberish, as the aliens destroy everything we hold dear.

The last thing we’ll see is a sea of incorrect grammar.

And the last thing YOU will see, dear reader, is this - a post from a incorrect sub that you never visited, a post from a person you never knew, a post that no one wanted to see.

Farewell.
