My students are not as resilient as I thought they'd be

I’ve been a high school teacher for over a decade and I’ve noticed that the kids coming out of Covid just aren’t as resilient as they were beforehand. I’ve raised my students' scores and grades dramatically by giving them second chances and extra credit and after class help. I give them assignments that are meaningful and interesting. I’m not sure I can keep this up, to be honest.

I’ve never gotten so many emails from kids crying about grades and parents yelling at me about grades.

I’ve never had so many kids fail. I’ve never had to wrack my brain so much to help a kid pass when that wasn’t the norm before.

Even though my students test high, they still have huge knowledge gaps and maturity gaps. They seem younger than they used to at this age.

I know the kids were hit hard by the pandemic. I want to help them. But I don’t think I can keep this up at this level. I’m exhausted.

Has anyone else experienced this?
