What did the people at the spread of Christianity think that their kids and grandkids would be doing?

This is a pretty broad question but let’s say we just focus on spread of Christianity in a certain geographic area. Like what did the people think in 60s Rome, or 400s England, and 1000s Kievan Rus, etc.
