After initially feeling sorry for the Covid-19 victims, I started to feel guilty about feeling sorry for something that I can’t control.

One day, however, I realized that I was feeling sorry for the wrong people; I felt sorry for the healthcare workers who are risking their lives to care for and cure the sick, for the supermarket and pharmacy workers who are risking their lives to provide us with the necessary goods, and for the public transport employees who are risking their lives to help people get to work or hospital.

These people didn’t have a choice to stay at home, and they don’t have the luxury to stock up on food, and they didn’t have the opportunity to protect themselves from the virus.

They are the real heroes and the real victims of this outbreak.

And to the rest of us who are staying at home, we’re not victims; we’re just lucky.
