A man approached me in a public restroom and whispered “Don’t make a sound” in my ear

One night I was out drinking with some friends in a craft beer bar. I excused myself from our table to go to the bathroom. I walked into the ladies room, and saw that there was a man in there. He was standing by the sink nearest the door, and had his back turned to me. He looked to be a regular patron of the bar because he had a beer in his hand. He didn’t seem to notice me at first, but when he heard the door shut he turned and looked at me. He did not leave. He looked at me again, and turned his back to me again, to continue washing his hands in the running faucet. At this point I was confused, but not concerned. I figured he was just a weirdo who didn’t realize he had accidentally walked into the ladies room. I walked past him to one of the stalls and shut and locked the door. I sat down and literally just sat there without lifting my skirt for a few seconds, amazed that a man, obviously drunk, had accidentally walked into the ladies room.

The sound of the water at the sink stopped, and I heard him turn around again, and walk over to my stall. I heard the door rattle where he tried to turn the handle, but it wouldn’t budge because it was locked. The next thing I heard was his voice, in a very low and menacing whisper in the direction of my stall. “Don’t make a sound” he said.

I sat there and heard him do the same thing to the next stall over in my row, and then I heard him go back to the sink. I was paralyzed with fear, not even thinking about my phone, or yelling for help. I was thinking that if he got in, I was going to fight, and whoever he was, he was going to have a hard time taking advantage of me. This is how I was raised. I sat there for a few minutes, not moving, until I heard him open and shut the main bathroom door. I then quickly got up and opened the main door to see if he was anywhere in sight. All I saw was the back of a man walking away. I wasn’t close enough to see his face, but my first instinct was that it was him.

After a few seconds of standing frozen in the doorway, I don’t know what came over me, but I started to run in the direction I saw the man walking. I ran past my friends table, yelling at them “That man that just walked by is dangerous, do not let him near any women!”. My friends know me as a very rational and level headed woman, and the look on my face told them that something was very wrong, and they didn’t question me. We went outside and didn’t see him, and when we went back in we told everyone at the bar what had happened. They all spread the word, and when I went back to the ladies room, a few women followed me in to make sure I was ok. In all of the confusion from the commotion I had just caused in the bar, I never went back to check if my friends ended up finding that man.

This happened over a year ago, and I never saw him again. I do still wonder if he had ulterior motives, if he was just a weird drunk dude who likes to go into ladies rooms, or if I overreacted. But one thing I do know, Lets not meet.

EDIT: For those of you who are saying that restrooms are gendered for a reason, this wasn’t a public restroom, it was the ladies room in a private business. No one can control who walks into a private restroom.

EDIT 2: I understand that some of you seem confused about the fact that I was saying this man was in the ladies room, and then I went to the bathroom. I didn’t go to the bathroom right away, I sat on the toilet for a few minutes, stunned. I never left the stall until I saw him leave.

EDIT 3: I understand that some of you don’t believe me. I assure you this is a true story.
