It is the eve of her 40th birthday. She has never been in love, never married and never had children. She was the ultimate "no nonsense" woman, and her 1 and only failed marriage was to a man who seemed to be her exact opposite. He was an absolute dream, and the way she spoke about him made him out to be a saint.

But what nobody knew was that her marriage was doomed from the start. He was an absolute disaster to live with. He was a slob, a snorer, a farting machine and he was so lazy that she had to do 90% of the housework. She worked a 6 day work week, so she had minimal time to clean anyway. But still, she was constantly tired because she had to wake up at 4am every morning, to get her day started.

Despite all of this, she refused to divorce him. He would always let her know how much he loved her, and she loved him too, but she was not meant to be married.

One day, after she had willed herself to get out of bed 5 minutes earlier than usual, she had an epiphany. She was tired of it all. She was tired of being miserable for no good reason. She was tired of having to constantly remind him to put the cap back on the toothpaste, or to pick up his socks. She was tired of always having to wait for him to get ready in the mornings, making her late for work.

It all came to a head after he had left the blender with a stubborn protein shake in it, on the stove for over 5 hours. She was about to go home from work when she got home to a burnt blender, and a rather shocked looking husband, who had absolutely no idea what had happened. He knew it had happened recently, but he had been out running some errands, so he had an alibi.

She was absolutely livid, and for the first time, she lost her composure. She screamed at him so loud, the neighbors had to call the cops, because they thought he was being abused.

She was beyond done. She could have divorced him at this point, and still been a saint, but she wasn't done with him yet. She wanted him to be miserable too.

A few days later, she began to purposefully act out of character. She became extremely clingy, and needy. She would constantly ask him where he was going, who he was meeting, what he was doing, etc. She would become extremely upset if he had any male friends over, and she would get incredibly jealous if he even talked to another woman. She would constantly check his phone for text messages, and she would become livid if he got any texts from women, or if he had any male friends on his Facebook.

She would constantly tell him how much she loved him, and she would get incredibly upset if he didn't call her, or text her immediately back whenever she called or texted him. She would become extremely upset if he didn't want to have sex, or if he wanted to masturbate instead.

Despite all of this, he was still happy, and still in love with her. She was in complete shock. She was expecting him to leave her, or for him to start hating her, but he was doing the opposite.

He began very subtly, telling her that he loved her, but that she had to give him some space. That she was suffocating him with how clingy she had become, and that he wanted her to be happy. She was still in character at this point, and she had a deep respect for him, so she accepted.

She put on a big smile, and stopped being clingy, only to realize that she had missed being that way. She missed the closeness she had with him, and how it made her feel like he wanted her around. But he didn't want that. He still wanted her to be happy, so he didn't mind.

This went on for months. She tried being super clingy again, and it only made him want to give her space more. She tried being super jealous again, and it only made him want to give her less cause to be jealous. She tried being super needy again, and it only made him want to give her less attention.

He would always let her know how much he loved her, but he just wanted her to be happy.

And then one day, she snapped out of it. She was tired of trying to make him miserable, tired of trying to get him to hate her. She just wanted him to be happy, so he could leave her.

But it never came to that. She snapped out of it, and asked if they could go back to how things used to be. They had a long talk about their communication problems, and she began to slowly undo the damage she had caused. It wasn't easy, but they were eventually back to normal.

It had to have been a test of their love, and she knew deep down that they both passed it. He showed her that he just wanted her to be happy, and she showed him that she just wanted him to be happy too.
