Why is it that women have to think they are accomplishing something to see a man happy?

I once mentioned to my current ex girlfriend that I was thinking about doing a computer engineering degree. She would be incredibly spiteful when talking about it, saying things like 'yeah I know some people who have engineering degrees and they have to live at home.... some of them are 30'.

I dropped the subject and then my new dream was to be a software developer. I finally got a decent job and then started working more hours and no longer found it important to pursue 'my dream' more than I needed to make a living.

I then told her that I would make more money by working more hours and that I think it is my best option currently, and she instead was emphasizing and proud saying things like 'no other man is brave enough to put their money and future first'.

To me it seems like she instead wants me to be poor and never find success than to be wealthy and take my time to develop a career. To me it seems incredibly spiteful.
